Shadow Puppet Slam
Build a screen, build a story, and perform it live.
Do you have an idea for a story or performance but weren’t sure where to start? Do I have a class for you!
Shadow puppetry is a form of puppetry that has existed for thousands of years in cultures around the world. A puppet slam is a cabaret-style evening of short-form puppetry intended for an adult audience. Put the two together and you have a great evening at the theater.
Puppet slams are an amazing place to try something new in a supportive and joyful atmosphere. This workshop covers every step of the process from first ideas to finished performance. Core skills include brainstorming, scripting, construction, rehearsing, and revision. The goal is not just to help you make one piece, but to give you the skills to make your next one.
What you’ll do
- Construct your own shadow puppet screen
- Learn the basics of shadow puppet construction and performance
- Create your own 3–5 minute performance
